Amharic area too big

The language area for Amharic reflects very well where the language is spoken nowadays. 1000 years ago, the Amharic language area was much smaller, restricted to a small area in the north of Ethiopia. Around 1000 AD, most of what is shown as Amharic here was inhabited by Cushitic populations, such as Agaw or Weyto. Amharic only seriously spread southward from around 1500 AD.
